HOME COMING AND THE SPIRIT WEEK !!!

Homecoming is an annual tradition of the United States. People, towns, high schools and colleges come together, usually in late September or early October, to welcome back alumni and former residents. When celebrated by schools, the activities vary widely. However, they usually consist of a football game played on a school's home football field, activities for students and alumni, a parade featuring the school's marching band and sports teams, and the coronation of a Homecoming Queen (and at many schools, a Homecoming King). A dance commonly follows the game.
              Traditions
        Homecoming Court
The Homecoming Court is a representative group of students that, in a coeducational institution, consists of a King and Queen, and possibly Prince(s) and Princess(es). In a single-sex institution, the Homecoming Court will usually consist of only a King and Princes (for a male school) or a Queen and Princesses (for a female school), although some schools may choose to join with single-gender schools of the opposite gender to elect the Homecoming Court jointly.

Generally, the King and Queen are students completing their final years of study at their school (also called seniors), while the Prince and Princess are Juniors(11th grade).  Duke and Duchess are from the 10th grade called Sophmers  and Lord and Lady from Freshmen (9th grade). Classmates traditionally nominate students who have done a lot to contribute to their school, then students vote for members of the Court from the nominees. Once the Homecoming Court candidates are announced, the entire student body votes for the Queen and King. The voting is often conducted by secret ballot.
The school, crown their royalty at the Homecoming football game. Often, the previous year's Queen and King are invited back to crown their successors.
 Dress-up days
Throughout the week, many schools engage in special dress-up days, sometimes called "Spirit Week", where students are allowed to wear clothing suitable to the theme leading to the homecoming. Students traditionally wear clothing with their school's name, or clothing and makeup of their school's colors on Friday.
At our school, this week, from Oct 10th to 14th is celebrated as the Spirit Week.

Spirit Week - October 10th through October 14th
This week’s Spirit Days are:
Monday - Class Colors Day
Tuesday - Multiplicity Day
Wednesday - Wild West
Thursday - R.I.P. Berkley Bears
Friday - Maroon Mania
There will be prizes this year for “Best Dressed”.

Dream Cruise !!! A feast for car lovers.

I had the opportunity to witness the car parade.......DREAM CRUISE . Mr. Duane and Mrs.Paula took me to see this event. It was really amazing, to watch such rare and colorful cars.
The Woodward Dream Cruise event is a classic car event held annually on the third Saturday of August in Metropolitan Detroit, along Woodward Avenue.

WAITING ALONG THE ROADSIDE TO WATCH THE CARS!!!

The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day automotive event, drawing about 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars each year from around the globe. Spectators can see muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles dating across several decades. The majority of the cars on display are those that were available and prevalent during the 1950s, 60s and early 70s prior to the OPEC oil embargo, which led to the Corporate Average Fuel Economy regulations of 1975 and the proliferation of more fuel-efficient and less powerful automobiles.

WOW!!! AMAZING ISN'T IT?   THERE ARE MANY MORE!!!

VISIT TO THE GREENFIELD VILLAGE

The Henry Ford, a National Historic Landmark, (also known as the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, and more formally as the Edison Institute), in the Metro Detroit suburb of Dearborn, Michigan, USA, is the nation's "largest indoor-outdoor history museum" complex. Named for its founder, the noted automobile industrialist Henry Ford, and based on his desire to preserve items of historical significance and portray the Industrial Revolution, the property houses a vast array of famous homes, machinery, exhibits, and Americana. The collection contains many rare exhibits including John F. Kennedy's presidential limousine, Abraham Lincoln's chair from Ford's Theatre, Thomas Edison's laboratory, the Wright Brothers' bicycle shop, and the Rosa Parks bus.
Henry Ford said of his museum:
“    I am collecting the history of our people as written into things their hands made and used.... When we are through, we shall have reproduced American life as lived, and that, I think, is the best way of preserving at least a part of our history and tradition...

The Village includes buildings from the 17th century to the present, many of which are staffed by costumed interpreters who conduct period tasks like farming, sewing and cooking. A collection of craft buildings such as pottery, glass-blowing, and tin shops provide demonstrations while producing materials used in the Village and for sale. Greenfield Village has 240 acres (970,000 m²) of land of which only 90 acres (360,000 m²) are used for the attraction, the rest being forest, river and extra pasture for the sheep and horses.
The transportation system provides rides by horse-drawn omnibus, steam locomotive, a 1931 Model AA bus (one of about 15 known to exist), and authentic Ford Model Ts. Steam locomotives in operation include the Torch Lake, an 1873 0-6-4 Mason Bogie which is one of the oldest operating steam locomotives in the U.S., and the Edison, a Davenport 0-4-0 rebuilt into a 4-4-0 by Ford. The railroad, unusually for a heritage railway, has a direct connection to Amtrak.
Some of the most notable homes and buildings include:
Noah Webster's Connecticut home.
The Wright brothers' bicycle shop and home from Dayton, Ohio.
Thomas Edison's Menlo Park laboratory from New Jersey.
Henry Ford's birthplace.
Henry Ford's prototype garage where he built the Ford Quadricycle.
Harvey Firestone family farm from Columbiana, Ohio.
