THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS!!! DIWALI CELEBRATIONS!!!



Cultural Exchange is a part of the the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program. On 26th October 2011, I celebrated Diwali with the staff and students of the Hazel Park High School.On the previous day some students volunteered to decorate the board and make posters. They were interested in learning more about the festival and how we celebrated.

 The next day Mrs. Emily drove me to the School with the "Kesari" a traditional sweet, which i made at home and "Murukkus " and other stuff to school. When i entered the room there was a BIG SURPRISE!!! Emily had placed diya's and lots of Indian sweets on my table and a card signed by some of my teacher colleagues and the leadership students. I WAS TOUCHED ,BY THE LOVE THEY SHOWER ON ME!!!

STUDY!   FUN!!   STORYTELLING!!!    NOW ITS TIME FOR FOOD!!!!        TASTING KESARI!!!

TIME TO TAKE A PLEDGE !!!       MY FOURTH HOUR STUDENTS TAKING A PLEDGE!!!

ARE MY EYES CHEATING ME!!!        NO!!!    MY EARS DO NOT!!!       I CAN HEAR!!!     "ON THIS DAY,   LET ME SHRED AWAY, ALL THE EVIL THOUGHTS.  MAY I THROW AWAY,  ALL THE BAD HABITS I HAD. LET ME TURN INTO A NEW PERSON, SEEKING FOR KNOWLEDGE . I KNOW THAT KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONLY WEALTH THAT CANNOT BE TAKEN AWAY BY ANY FORCE  AND IT WILL LEAD ME TO ETERNAL BLISS!"

AFTER THE CLASS, BELIEVE ME I CAN HEAR MANY OF THE STUDENTS SAYING "TODAY  IS THE BEST CLASS"    I WISH I COULD CELEBRATE DIWALI EVERY DAY!!!
